History

An important part of the SNPJ Slovenian Heritage Center is the fact that the history of the Slovene National Benefit Society (SNPJ) is chronicled for generations to come. SNPJ has been providing its members with quality life insurance, financial services and fraternal benefits since 1904. And since its founding, the SNPJ Slovenian Heritage Center has made it a point to document SNPJ’s contributions to the Slovenian cultural heritage in America over the course of the past century.

The Slovenian Heritage Center has helped keep the Slovene National Benefit Society at the forefront of Slovenian cultural preservation in America by:

  • Maintaining displays on SNPJ history
  • Housing past issues of PROSVETA and The Voice of Youth (the Society’s official publication and the former youth magazine, respectively)
  • Presenting memorabilia from SNPJ’s past

By preserving articles from the past, such as these early-20th century convention pins, the Slovenian Heritage Center has been able to document SNPJ’s contributions to the Slovenian culture here in America.

Among the many items the Slovenian Heritage Center has archived, visitors can discover documents and descriptions of early SNPJ proceedings, convention items and related memorabilia, and a complete collection of photographs that trace the history of the Slovene National Benefit Society.
